Wrightsville Beach Topwater Blackfin Massacre

Monday, May 24, 2010

Myself, Mikey, Arlen, and Jon left wrightsville beach with blackfin tuna on our minds.  After our last trip we had a feeling they would be there and we were not disappointed.  We set up on the first spot to jig and look up to see blackfins crashing flying fish everywhere.  We quickly reeled in the jigging gear and busted out the topwater rods and it was on.  It was double and triple hook ups all day.  It was simple, look for the flying fish blast out of the water and cast to them and it was game on.  In the mddle of the day, the tuna had bait balls pushed up to the surface and it was an all out feeding frenzy.  Cast a lure into the fray, come out with a tuna.  It was incredible.  We finally had to leave the fish biting because all of the fishboxes were slam full.  We ended the day with 35 blackfins and 4 or 5 skipjacks the made a delicious tuna salad.  It was some of the best fishing you would ever experience anywhere in the world right here in Wrightsville Beach, NC.
